A defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the potential threats posed by Chinese cars, and staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about classified information in all vehicles.
Security Guidance for MoD Staff
In a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret information while riding in Chinese cars.
The minister said that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a concern in all contemporary cars.
We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their car, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing risks of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.
After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using every cars from China, the minister replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

The announcement follows reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring chaos to transport systems.
Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.
